Despite its growth, Symington’s has retained its company ethos, which enables it to be innovative, adventurous and make quick decisions:

“The Sales Team here is structured around separate units, each of which is run as independent businesses, all of them working to common Symington’s goals. This approach is appreciated by our Customers, as it means we can respond quickly to their needs. It also enables us to empower our sales staff – we let them lead projects, and run their own business units if they are up for the challenge.”

When not at work, Tim is enjoys eating out, and trying to improve his golf handicap.

Chris Dawson

Chris Dawson

Business Unit Manager
Biography

Chris is part of a family that has worked at Symington’s for three generations, and it has become something of a tradition – Chris’ grandfather worked for the business for 10 years, and his father and brother still work within the company.

Chris started his working life for Symington’s, working on the company production line during the school summer holidays.

On leaving Secondary School, Chris completed an HND in business management and after working in the company warehouse, he was able to progress his career by joining the marketing team in a marketing assistant role. He stayed in this position for a couple of years, before deciding that his future lay within sales, and joined the sales team as an account executive in 2006.

Chris was promoted to his present role in 2007 where he is responsible for expanding a business unit that looks after multi-channel customers such as large cash and carries, and wholesalers.

“I’ve had a huge amount of support from the senior team at Symington’s in my career to date,” said Chris. “It’s a company where staff are encouraged to take ownership for projects, and fulfill their full potential – you are given everything you need to do your job and take your career to the next level. I’m now doing the job I dreamed of doing when I joined the company seven years ago.”

Chris’ spare time is taken up with looking after his ten-month old son – no word yet on whether he’ll be joining Symington’s too though!
